The last weeks of our English-Basic-Course with Ms. Barth were devoted to a Podcast-Project.  

The last weeks of our English course were devoted to the Podcast Project. A Podcast is an audio recording in which people discuss topics of special interest. A Podcast is free for everyone on the Internet. In our class, we worked in groups of three and chose topics like football, Carnival, our class trip to Spain, habits of couples and cooking. Every group had to make three episodes of their Podcast. We had to record and edit the Podcasts by ourselves during our English lessons using our smartphones and Audacity, an easy audio editing programme for greenhorns. Furthermore, we had to listen to professional Podcasts to gain insight into the genre. We had to structure the Podcast and complete a portfolio in which we collected the scripts, the evaluations and improvement plans for our episodes. For every episode, we had a deadline to upload our finished episode to moodle. Our group was called Taste Hunters 1.

We talked about the cooking experiences of three guys. In every episode of our Podcast, one of us cooked and we discussed and rated the meal. At the end of the three episodes, we crowned the winner, Tobias.
During the recordings, we learned to react to each other in a discussion and to use typical English phrases. It was a fun experience for us to record and edit it. We have improved our English speaking skills in the way of free speaking. From episode to episode we became better and better and spoke more fluently. After the Project, we reflected our experiences with it with the whole class and everyone was enthusiastic about the newly gained skills. We would suggest to everyone to participate in such a kind of project – it is worth the experience.
